Niche Websites vs Authority Websites
Niche Sites vs Authority Sites
If you are at all familiar with affiliate marketing then I am sure you have contemplated at one time or another on whether to build niche websites or authority websites. This is a debate I have had with myself many, many times.
I have experience with both niche sites and authority sites. Each style has their own pros and cons, lets weight them out: (keep in mind this is solely my own opinion based on my own experience and not written in stone)
Niche Websites
Pros
- Keyword in domain.
- Less backlinks needed in order to rank because keyword is in domain name (debatable).
Cons
- $10 for every domain name.
- A lot of work to manage numerous domain names.
- Much talk that the changes google are less favourable for niche sites, lives may be short lived.
- Cannot blast a new site with backlinks or you will risk being sandboxed.
- Generally much less content.
Authority Websites
Pros
- Appear much more favourable to benefit from the many changes Google is making.
- Easy to manage multiple posts than multiple domains.
- Save money from not having to buy numerous domain names.
- Can advertise multiple products from multiple the same niche, and sub-niches easily, keeps visitors on site longer which proves. beneficial for seo and the longer a visitor stays on your site the better chance you have of a sale.
- If main domain is of high Page Rank, it is much easier for posts to aquire same, or similar Page Rank and gain authority. This generally equals faster rankings.
- Can blast new posts with backlinks and not have to worry about getting sandboxed by Google, as long as your site is aged enough, generally at least a year old.
- Every new post to the domain shows Google that ur site is constantly being updated, and Google loves active sites.
- Generally loads of content.
Cons
- Target keywords from posts will not be in domain name.
- May take more work to rank (highyl debatable).
- More technical to build.
So which is better? Niche sites or authority sites?
With all the changes Google is making I cannot see how niche websites will last much longer. I have a few niche site myself and I have to admit they do rank well, but I am nervous about their place in the future.
These niche sites have MUCH less content than my authority sites which is why Google sees them as thin sites, and generally junk. This is why many affiliate marketers lost a ton of their income online.
I think it is quite obvious from weighing out the pros and cons that authority websites have many advantages over niche websites. I have a few authority sites now, this site being one of them, and I will continue to build authority sites.
Why? I am in the business for the long haul and I just do not see a place for niche websites in the future to be as successful as they once were.
Authority sites are much more technical to build in terms of choosing the right theme, proper navigation, widgets, columns, and much more. There are many more aspects to consider with authority websites than niche websites, but trust me, they are well worth the effort in the end.
Here is an example of one of my authority sites
Unsure of how to build an authority site? This is how I learned
Conclusion
I highly recommend building authority websites over niche websites in order to create yourself a safer and much more sustainable income online.
